Malmo - Sweden's City of Parks

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

Situated just a 40 minute train ride over the Oresund bridge from Copenhagen, Malmo is cute, cosy and somewhat more laid back than its busy Danish neighbour.

Stroll through the cobblestone streets in the old town while checking out the quaint cafes and shops, admire the beautiful parks and canals and finish by the harbour with a view of the Oresund bridge and 190m high Turning Torso, a neo futurist skyscraper and the tallest building in Scandinavia. All this can be done in an afternoon within the compact city center.

Malmo is actually known as Sweden's "City of Parks". The glorious King's Park and the Castle Park are separated by a stunning 17th century canal and linked by several bridges. The Malmohus Castle, the oldest surviving Renaissance castle in Sweden and originating from 1434, is also worth a visit.

We took a fika -a coffee and sweet treat-in the medieval square of Lilla Torg, and then worked our way around some of the galleries, museums (including a "Disgusting Food" Museum) and designer boutiques that cluster that part of the city center before returning to the train station via the harbour and its magnificent views.
